Celebrating 25 Years of Live Alternative Theater in Saskatoon

Celebrating 25 Years of Live Alternative Theater in Saskatoon

Summers are always fantastic here in Saskatoon, so what better way to enjoy them other than a good old street festival!

The Fringe Festival has come a long way since Saskatoon was added to the circuit back in 1989 with event organizers now boasting they “have the perfect formula” and I have to say, looking at the entertainment this year, I have to agree.

With Live Theater, Food, Street Performers, Children’s Entertainment and Live Music there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

So what’s new?

Well, there are a few things actually. This year we will see the new “Theater on the Street” whereby students from the University perform two plays on the corner of 11th and Broadway.

Event organizer and creator Tom Bentley will be hosting a new “Theater Forum” discussing the future of theatre on August 8th at 7pm over at The Refinery.

Also new this year is the launch of “The Annual Spoof Night” where Fringe performers parody each others plays, so if you are interested, the show also debuts on August 8th at midnight.

One of the many aspects I love about the Fringe Festival is that the audience has the option to pay a ticket price to which 100% goes directly to the performers and that the artistic freedom of the participants are unrestrained.

Furthermore, there’s so much for the kids to enjoy that it’s an easy decision to make if you are stuck for anything to do over the next 9 days!

So, what do you love about the fringe festival? Be sure to leave me a note
